A Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote Review – Is it Really Worth It?

Most homes have numerous devices that require a remote to take full advantage of the features they offer. It’s nice to have all of that at our fingertips but it can be a real hassle when you have to deal with a handful of different remotes. The Logitech Harmony 550 universal remote is made to be programmed with up to 15 different devices. It’s database contains support for 250,000 things so it’s a pretty sure bet that whatever you want to put in there, it’s going to work.

The initial set up is done through your computer. Upon plugging it in you’ll be prompted to answer a few questions from the set up wizard and before you know it, your remote is programmed and ready to be used! Even though set up is pretty user friendly, if you still have questions about something there’s a number you can call for customer support.

The Logitech Harmony 550 comes with a help menu built into it. Say you have a babysitter over and instead of needing to teach her how to use the remote. When she’s ready to put on a movie for the kids or put on children’s programming, all she has to do is follow the remote’s help menu and it will guide her through doing whatever it is she’s trying to do. Another neat function is that the remote comes with back lighting. There’s no need to turn a light on if you’re watching a movie in the dark. Once you touch a button on the remote the back light will come on and you can easily see what you’re doing without fumbling around or needing to turn the actual lights on.
